I can not stress enough how happy I am with my results from Adam and Eve. I have never gotten any kind of laser hair removal, and I was a bit skeptical at first by all the hype. I was also really scared of the pain! The technicians are extremely friendly and do everything they can to make you feel comfortable - they don't put any sales pressure on you, they let you know exactly what to expect, and even offer little things to help you get through the pain (breaks whenever you need one, cold compresses, a stress ball to squeeze). After one treatment on my bikini area and my lip, I can already see results. The pain factor may be an issue, but that will be the same at any laser center. The prices were reasonable, and they seem to be flexible with discounts and package rates. The center is clean, classy, and professional - I have already told several friends about this place. |

I've got a lot of conflict regarding the state
of women's bodies being up for political discourse
and a publicly decided trope, but this is the state
of affairs since Bella Abzug first torched her
Wacoal. However, as I get older and find hair in
unexpected spots, I become just as militantly
obsessed about removing them.
Waxing takes away the lovely, downy peach fuzz that
I think lends that Godard French focus to a woman's
face, as does sugaring, and tweezing is traumatic
for the skin. I didn't get into my 30's merely to
look like a pizza faced teenager. So after MUCH
research into laser hair removal and who practices
it well, I found Adam and Eve in my neighborhood.
The space is on a strip of 4th Avenue in Brooklyn
mostly known for its construction sites, auto repair
shops, and the lesbian bar Cattyshack a block away.
Unlikely customer base aside, it may benefit once
the million condos finally open on 4th. Ugh.
Anyway...
Felicia, the former aesthetician who runs the place,
was very kind and helpful, although not the most
informed about the lasers except anecdotally. I
don't think she has one unmapped hair on her entire
body. She has a chart based on skin type and tone,
and swears by her machine - an Apogee combined
Alexandrite laser.
PLEASE research this treatment thoroughly before you
have it done. It does carry serious risks, and it's
unfair to totally rely on Felicia and her charts.
Oh, and coffee is hot and rocks are heavy.
So Felicia tells me "there's a puff of air" which
comes while they do the treatment. What I didn't
realize it that it's incredibly cold, highly
pressurized air, meant to keep the skin cool while
the laser is frying the follicles. Understatement
was such that I actually panicked on the table. The
air was forcibly blowing on my windpipe, and any
time her hand moved away from my chin, it blew
directly into my mouth, stealing my oxygen.
Horrible, horrible feeling. Made me think of
waterboarding. But that's part of the laser and
where I was getting blasted, not any fault of the
place. Just be aware of this - it freaked me out
badly.
The whole process was very quick, and Felicia
applied an aloe lotion to my jaw to reduce redness.
Very easy and efficient. Again, I was left
breathless and freaked for a while from the
suffocation sensation, but that's just me. Nice
people, and I'd highly recommend the procedure on
any other part of the body.
